Spotlight on SK1N: Two Unique Projects Making It Shine

Inspired by the warmth of timeless Italian craftsmanship and developed in Italy, SK1N embodies the region's passion for elegant and refined design.

The material offers clean lines and seamless uniformity roof to wall. It also brings a classic warmth and subtle nods to traditional architectural design, instilling modern ceramic techniques to bring a new element of beauty to any household.

Available in seven colours, SK1N takes an Italian classic and evolves to the modern Australian landscape, a simple way to elevate existing households with ease.

Terracotta House is a home in Middle Park in Melbourne, that exemplifies the harmony between classic design and modern innovation. The project marks the return of Matyas Architects to a project they worked on 20 years prior.

Using Austral Bricks SK1N Potenza to reimagine a heritage home, the material spans across the exterior of the newly built addition. The palette is colourful but traditional, a playful twist on a contemporary design language that imbues angular lines and enduring forms, a revisiting of a home that has nuance between traditional form and innovative materiality. 

The use of SK1N allows the homeowners to embrace a tone of material expression, while being faithful to the traditionality of the home design.

Another heritage home using the materiality of SK1N, Northside House, an original Federation era residence, reinforces the continuity between traditional form and contemporary upgrades.

The facade reflects its legacy, Wellard Architects maintain the frontage, the warm hue brick inspiring the addition that brought a contemporary look and feel to the traditional home. The home is very clearly seen from the streetscape along the Northern side, and this meant that the addition needed to coexist with the original home comfortably.

Austral Bricks SK1N in Potenza was utilised as a way to compliment and blend into the original brick setting, while also bringing the home into a more modern realm. Pairing with the wooden interior, the neutral materials provided a feeling of space and calm in the interior, while pairing with the materiality of the exterior.
