Gutter colour selection

If your roof line is very high and dominating the façade, you can make the roof appear smaller by choosing a lighter gutter colour than the roof itself – maybe a tone closer in colour to the brick selection. Subsequently, should your roof line appear low, or not well balanced with the rest of the façade, matching the gutter to the roof tile will have the effect of lengthening or raising the appearance of the roof.

This is a clever optical trick that can alter the façade of your home at no cost, and is achieved by merely considering an alternate colour selection.

Colour balance

When selecting your bricks, roof tiles, fascia, gutter etc it is important to consider how colour can affect our moods. In general, lighter colours have an uplifting feeling while darker colours can appear slightly depressing or sombre. This explanation is not so “cut and dry”; as light colours may also appear dull and dark colours can often appear striking and stylish.

Instead of having an extremely light colour scheme, which may be bland, or an extremely dark colour scheme, which may be heavy, our advice is to try mixing these colours and give the façade a better balance -  for example a lighter brick with a dark roof.
